We are honored to announce the inaugural edition of Late Advocate Arjun Lal Agarwal National Moot Court Competition, a prestigious tribute to the legacy of a legal luminary who dedicated his life to justice and advocacy. This national-level competition offers budding legal minds a platform to showcase their talent, hone their courtroom skills, and engage in stimulating legal discourse. As we celebrate Advocate Agarwal’s unwavering commitment to the law, we invite law students from across the nation to participate in this esteemed event. The competition will be held across two stages: Preliminary Round (Virtual Mode): February 17th – 18th, 2024 and Final Round (Physical Mode): March 9th, 2024, in Cuttack, Odisha We anticipate welcoming teams from prestigious law schools across the nation, eager to showcase their oratory skills and legal acumen while grappling with a challenging and contemporary legal issue.

ABOUT

Born on February 1st, 1941, in Angul, hailing from the esteemed lineage of Sri Mangturam Agrawal, a renowned figure known for his multifaceted contributions as a social worker, philanthropist, accomplished businessman, and former councillor of the Angul Municipality. Arjun Lal Agarwal’s educational journey commenced at the Government High School in Angul, followed by a Bachelor’s degree in arts from G.M. College, Sambalpur, culminated with a Law degree from M.S. Law College, Cuttack.

PROFESSIONAL JOURNEY

Embarking on his professional career, he commenced his legal practice as an Advocate on January 11, 1966, specializing in Taxation Laws and operating notably at the Orissa High Court and various Tax authorities in India. A revered figure in educational and professional circles, he served as an elected member of the Senate and Finance Committee of Utkal University. His contributions extended to roles such as Secretary of Hindi Vidyalaya, Cuttack, and involvement in educational endeavours at Ravenshaw College and M.S. Law College. Additionally, he led seminars on Taxation Laws across different parts of India. Having been elected five times consecutively as a member of the Orissa State Bar Council, he made history by serving continuously for 26 years. Eventually, he was elected as Chairman of the bar council in January 1997. His tenure reverberated in the echelons of legal rectitude, contributing astutely to the Disciplinary Committee of the Bar Council of India from 1992 to 1994. His ardent affiliations burgeoned across the legal landscape. He was the secretary of the All Orissa Tax Bar Association, a life member of the Orissa High Court Bar Association, the vice-president of the All India Federation of Tax Practitioners, Eastern Region and the
Vice-President of the same federation in Mumbai, a mantle he held until his final breath. He assumed roles in various committees, steering celebrations and steering the course of justice with finesse. He dedicated himself as a Life Member to several esteemed organizations including the International Red Cross, ISKCON, Lions International, Tax Bar Association, Utkalion Foundation Trust, Knights of the Blind, and many others. Additionally, he served as the Life Managing Trustee of the Lions Club of Cuttack Eye Hospital and Research Centre, exhibiting his commitment to charitable and philanthropic causes. Throughout his life, he remained connected with numerous charitable, educational, and social institutions, leaving an indelible mark through his selfless service and unwavering dedication to the betterment of society.

  • A registration fee of 1500/- will be charged per team, payable upon submission of the registration form.
